4-day summer tours from Marrakech
A summer Sahara Desert tours for those wishing to sleep under the stars
The camp is closed from 7 June to 1 September, so we have created by popular demand, a one night stay in a delightful private and simple camp. This one-night stay is part of a 4-day excursion from Marrakech. However, the excursion can be reduced to 3 days if you only have limited time available.
This includes 2 nights at a guesthouse on the way to and from the desert and one night in the desert.
The desert is VERY hot in the summer. However, there is still pure simple enjoyment to be garnered in sleeping out under the stars on a warm summer night.
So, you would arrive one or two hours before sunset, enjoy a camel ride or hike, evening drinks on the dunes, and dinner under the stars. In the morning you would depart about 2 hours after sunrise, after breakfast.
The camp will be beautifully simple. Beds will be provided with good quality mattresses and high quality linen. The beds will be setup outside. There will be a lovely relaxing area with pouffes and cushions, and dinner will be served al fresco. Cold drinks will be provided.
The cost of a 3-night trip for 2 people is 1250 euro. This includes:
- 1 night at Ksar Ighnda or Kasbah Ellouze en route to the desert
- 1 nights at Kasbah Azul, Agdz, en route back from the desert
- 1 night in the desert
- 4x4 transport in a Land Cruiser with driver
- At guesthouses, breakfast and dinner are included. Drinks are extra. At the camp all meals, all drinks and camel treks are included.
- Larger groups and families can also be accommodated.
- Both guesthouses have lovely swimming pools.
The itinerary can be tailor-made to your wishes. Below is our suggested 4 day-trip:
The trip to the desert is over two days, with one night being spent at a guesthouse en route to the desert, two nights at the desert camp and return to Marrakech in one day.
The summary of the tour is as follows:
Overnight at Ksar Ighnda, near the UNESCO heritage Ksar of Aït Benhnadou 3h 30 min from Marrakech. The route is via the High Atlas Mountains and Tizi n’Tichka pass (alt. 2300 m) and the Ounila Valley, full of ancient villages and kasbahs.
It’s a 5hr 30min drive through the Draa Valley (home to 3 million date palms and hundreds of kasbahs), Zagora, Tamegroute (famous for its green-glazed pottery and ancient Koranic library), M’Hamid (where the tar road ends and the Sahara begins). Arrive about 1 to 2 hours before sunset.
Depart about 2 hours after sunrise. The trip to Kasbah Azul, Agdz, is about 4 hours.
Return to Marrakech on the main highway over Tizi n’Tichka. The return trip is 5 hours.
